Captivate Soloist program

Soloists can attend specialty classes/workshops in various styles to support their artistry, concept, and choreography. While these classes are optional, students wishing to perform in a PoleCoven produced or co-produced event in a specific style must have experience in that style, be currently training in it, or attend the specialty classes/workshops in order to perform. Workshop teachers, facilitators, and leaders are community members with varying levels of performance experience. These learning opportunities will also be open to the public if space allows. The following styles are currently available for training, but we're open to additional styles and suggestions if you have a particular interest.

Burlesque/Polesque

This series is designed for students who want to learn the art of burlesque and how to incorporate pole into their performance art. Experienced community members who regularly produce and perform burlesque will facilitate classes/workshops. These workshops will offer comprehensive training to support you in building a piece from start to finish.

Contemporary/Lyrical

This series teaches students the fundamentals of lyrical and contemporary dance, enabling them to incorporate these movement patterns safely and effectively into choreography. Instructors with strong dance backgrounds who currently teach this style locally will lead the classes.

Old School Erotica/Stripper/Classique/Club

This series focuses on the slow burn and fluid movements used in historic pole dance originating in clubs. Current and former club performers will lead workshops, offering popular movement phrases and feedback based on their personal experience.

New School/Russian Hard Style/Frame Up/Strip Plastic

This series explores the fusion of multiple forms of dance and acrobatics common in pole and floorwork dance performed in platformed heels ("strips", stripper heels, or pleasers), popular in Eastern Europe and beyond. Guest instructors will share their experience in the style, offering combinations and tricks that can be incorporated into choreography.

Experimental

This is an open area that will be based on student goals. If there is a style that you are interested in incorporating, please reach out and we are happy to do our best to find ways that both you and the rest of your cohort can learn from industry leaders or instructors in a particular style.
