How we work

A pop-up, on purpose

For Fall 2026 we're back to the model we started with in 2020: smaller programs spread across multiple studios.

Three studios are on the calendar now, with more joining through the season. Popping up keeps us close to the island's other dance communities.

The show you'll perform in

Dance with the Devil: Reap What You Sow

Presented by Pandora's Box Cabaret and written, created and produced by Duchess St. Claire. Hosted by the Devil himself, it blends burlesque, drag and dance into a night of variety performance built around the seven deadly sins. PoleCoven performs a guest piece.

It's their second rendition. Last year the show asked who is in hell and whether they deserve it. This year it asks who is on earth, and deserving of hell.

Content and themes

This is not a gentle show, and you'd be performing in it. Pandora's Box lists the following themes: death, violence, implied sexual assault, grief, torture, injustice and murder. The show carries strong political themes and leans into the horrors we face as a society.

If any of that is something you'd rather not spend six weeks inside, that's a good reason not to apply this round. Don't worry, we'll have other shows. Enrol in ELEVATED or come to drop-ins until the next one is announced.

Dress code for the audience is Midnight Society Macabre: black and red, elegant mourning shrouds, witchy couture.

Experience something unique

Set in a historic church built in 1888 (now home to a ballet school), last year’s show premiere unfolded beneath glowing stained glass with the audience seated in original wooden pews. Join us again this year for an intimate, reverent setting that makes this performance unforgettable.

About PoleCoven

PoleCoven is a pole and movement studio in Victoria, BC, where technical training, embodied exploration, and personal expression belong together. We honour pole’s lineages and welcome all bodies, backgrounds, and reasons for moving. Come to build strength, develop artistry, and become more capable without becoming less yourself.

HOW WE STARTED

Built for performers

PoleCoven hosted its first classes in March 2020. In 2021, we hosted our first student showcase, and the program has grown since then. PoleCoven has grown its drop-in technique and performance training programs over the past 6 years, and holds regular shows at Dance Victoria in Saanich and Artemis Whiskey Bar located in Market Square.

Since our initial pop-ups out of Studio 4 Athletics downtown, we expanded by collaborating with community partners like Luminesque Dance, Pandora’s Box Cabaret, and others. In 2024, we produced our first show, Thrive, and now focus on creating student performance opportunities.

Where this comes from

Pole Dance History

This art form emerged from strip clubs, and the moves we adore in floorwork, heels, and pole are from the sex workers who built the movement vocabulary the whole industry now trains on. We teach it as their art form, credited, rather than as a workout that happens to involve a pole.

Who teaches

Instructors

Our instructors are working performers: the material they teach is the material they take on stage. Your goals and your pace set the class; their job is to get you there safely.
